Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises

January 12, 2022

Youth engagement program: Experts Lecture was arranged on 12th January 2022 Wednesday between 10:00 AM to 11:15 AM. Mr. Arindam Lahiri, CEO, Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC) delivered a talk on Skilling Initiatives, and Higher Education and the Role of NEP in the Education Framework. The experts’ lecture was attended by engineering students from all over India, industry experts, and employees from ARAI. About 80 participants attended the event. Dr. Reji Mathai, Director ARAI laid stress on the easy availability of learning platforms to the current engineering students; but the pressing question on “how do I take steps to secure my job/career?” Director, ARAI added that ARAI is playing a vital role in skills development and providing industry exposure. Mr. Arindam Lahiri illustrated that there has been a tectonic shift in the environment that we operate in, typically in the last two years. The workplace has been significantly impacted; humans are being assisted by robots as well as cobots. India has a genuine challenge to overcome such as internet connectivity for far-remote areas. Mr. Lahiri also said that the National Education Policy (NEP) would opt for education in the native language; the significance of vocational training. NEP would require structural interventions in higher education. The parity arising due to language supremacy would vanish over time. NEP also will invoke the dignity of labor by stressing the significance of vocational training. The academic bank of credit with multiple entry/exit levels would be included in the curriculum. For higher education, research and innovation and infrastructure as National Research Foundation (NRF) is of prime importance. Mr. Lahiri concluded that India has moved way ahead in this time of the test; and would sustain itself to reach the dream of a developed country by 2047. The complete event was attended by 80 participants from diverse backgrounds giving real meaning to Janbhagidari. Finally, the event was concluded with the Vote of thanks given by Dr. Sanjay Patil, GM, Academy.
