Nagindas Narandas Parekh

Nagindas Parekh was born on 30 August 1903 in Valsad. He joined Rashtriyashala and passed matriculation (Vineet) conducted by the Gujarat Vidyapith. For higher education, he got admission to the Gujarat Vidyapith. He graduated with Gujarati and Bengali languages in 1925. For post-graduation, he went to Vishwabharati, Shanti Niketan. He intensely studied the literature of Rabindranath Tagore and other Bengali writers. He joined Gujarat Vidyapith as a professor of Gujarati and Bengali next year. For some time, he served as the principal of Vinay Mandir of Gujarat Vidyapith. In 1930, during the Dandi March, he camped at the Lasundra village of Kheda district and violated the law by preparing the salt. He was arrested and imprisoned in the Sabarmati Jail for nine months. He was imprisoned several times later on for taking part in Satyagraha or violating government orders. He again became a professor in the Vidyapith in 1936 and worked for six years. In 1944, he joined the ‘Navjivan Karyalay' and served for three years. He retired as a professor from a college in Ahmedabad. He was conferred the degree of ‘RavindraTattvacharya’ by the ‘Tagore Research Institute’ of Bengal in 1981. He died on 19th January 1993 in Ahmedabad.
