Lava Dance: Traditional folk-dance of the Minicoy Island

Dance is a prevalent art form found on the Lakshadweep Islands. Lava Dance, the traditional folk-dance of the people of Lakshadweep, is a cultural heritage of the Indian subcontinent. It is the most popular dance form of the Minicoy Island, among other specialized dance forms. Usually the male participants can be seen performing this traditional art form. The participants can be seen lining up, then performing dance in circular movements on the beat of roaring drums. They wear colourful costumes constituting of bright red trousers, a white scarf tied around the waist and a head gear (known as 'Bolufeyle'). This dance form is performed on festive occasions. There are about fourteen participants in this traditional folk-dance.
