Sheo Narayan Singh Sangwan, son of Shri Sukhi Ram was born into a farmer's family in Mankawas, a time when poverty and unemployment were widespread, and access to education was limited. Despite these challenges, he completed his primary education in his native village. Inspired by patriotism, he joined the army, finding British colonial rule intolerable.
During World War-II, Sheo Narayan Singh became a part of the Indian National Army (INA) under Mohan Singh's leadership after the Japanese conquered Singapore in 1942. Later, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose revitalized the INA, inspiring the soldiers with his famous call, “You give me blood, I will give you freedom.” Sangwan participated in fierce battles, advancing through Kohima and Manipur, despite hunger and dire conditions. After Japan's defeat, he was imprisoned in Rangoon and other locations.
For his significant contributions to the freedom struggle, Sheo Narayan Singh Sangwan received a Tamra Patra from Hon’ble Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi on 15 August 1972. After his death on 23 March 1996, his wife, Mrs. Jeevani Devi, was honoured by the Haryana government as well.
