Nanu Ram, son of Chaudhary Nanak Chand and Jaharo Devi was born in 1909 in Bisanpura (Gharonda), Jind district. Growing up during India’s struggle for independence, he was inspired by his father and Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati, becoming a follower of Arya Samaj and adopting the doctrine of Karma. Nanu Ram actively participated in the Non-Cooperation Movement and was deeply moved by the Sampurna Azadi Resolution in 1930 and subsequent events in Jind.
In 1932, during the resurgence of the Non-Cooperation Movement, Nanu Ram continued his activism. Nanu Ram also played a significant role in the Hyderabad Movement (Arya Samaj Movement) against the oppressive Nizam rule in 1938-39. He was imprisoned in Aurangabad Jail under harsh conditions but was eventually released.
During the Quit India Movement in 1942, Nanu Ram, alongside Swami Swatantranand, motivated people to leave the British colonial army. He was married to Smt. Shanti Devi, and had two sons and a daughter.
Nanu Ram passed away in the year 1977. In recognition of his contributions to the freedom struggle, his wife was honoured with a Tamrapatra by the Haryana government on 21 October 1997, during the birth centenary celebrations of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
