Prahlad Ram

Mahendragarh, Haryana

April 15, 2025 to April 15, 2028

Prahlad Ram, a brave soldier of the Azad Hind Fauj, was born in Patharwas village, Mahendragarh district. His father, Shri Ram Lal, was a respected figure in the village, and Parhlad received his basic education at home.

In 1938, Prahlad Ram joined the British Army and was deployed to fight in Malaya. After the British defeat there, he was captured by the Japanese and spent about nine months as a prisoner. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose secured the release of these Indian soldiers and encouraged them to join the Azad Hind Fauj.

Inspired by Netaji, Prahlad Ram joined the Indian National Army (INA) and fought in battles across Taipei, Japan, Malaya, Singapore, Rangoon, and other regions. He had the honour of serving as Netaji's security officer but was deeply affected by the news of Netaji's death during the war in Rangoon. After Japan's defeat, Prahlad and his comrades were imprisoned by the British, branded as war criminals, and deported to the Cellular Jail in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Following India's independence, Prahlad Ram returned to a simple life as a farmer, always supporting his community. The Haryana Government honoured him on 15 August 1985.

Prahlad Ram passed away on 1 January 1990.
