Chotu

Chotu, born in 1922 in Kakraula, Delhi, to Jai Ram, began his education in Urdu upto the 3rd grade and then continued his education in Hindi. Following his schooling, he engaged in farming, a tradition rooted in his family. However, Chotu's life took a pivotal turn when he enlisted in the Indian Army, serving as a Lance Naik in the 4/9 Jat Regiment. His dedication and commitment led him to join the Azad Hind Fauj in 1943, where he became a part of the Secret Information Service Corps. Demonstrating exceptional skills and courage, Chotu rose to the rank of Havildar, actively participating in guerrilla warfare operations.

In May 1945, Chotu was captured by British colonial forces in Burma and endured two and a half months of imprisonment in the Rangoon jail. Despite these severe hardships, his spirit remained resolute, showcasing his unwavering commitment to his duties and the nation.

Chotu’s military service and subsequent imprisonment shaped him into a resilient and determined individual. Upon his release, he transitioned to civilian life on 26 January 1946, marking a significant shift in his journey. This date not only symbolized the end of his military career but also the beginning of a new chapter in his life. His experiences and perseverance through adversity reflect a deep sense of fortitude and dedication, embodying the enduring spirit of a true patriot.
