Chander Singh, born in 1920 in Mehrauli, Delhi, came from a humble background and was the cherished son of Shri Uday Ram. His father, a man of integrity, instilled in him the values of diligence, courage and honour. Despite formal education ending in the 3rd class in Hindi, Chander Singh's desire to learn was boundless. His journey took him to the prestigious 4/19 Hyderabad Regiment of the Indian Army, where he embraced a life of service and commitment.
Singh's path intersected with the Azad Hind Fauj, led by the visionary Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Embracing the revolutionary ideals of this force, Singh became a Lance-Naik in the Jaanbaaz Unit. His role demanded not only physical strength but also intelligence, quick decision-making and leadership. In battle, he proved himself as a beacon of hope and courage, inspiring his fellow soldiers with his unyielding resolve and bravery.
Through his distinguished service in both the Indian Army and the Azad Hind Fauj, Chander Singh made his mark as a true patriot and gallant warrior. His legacy of valour, sacrifice and loyalty to the nation remains an enduring source of inspiration. His life story exemplifies the indomitable human spirit, transcending boundaries and time, and continues to inspire all those who strive for a better tomorrow.
