Surendramohan Saha

Kolkata, West Bengal

March 10, 2025 to March 10, 2028

Surendramohan Saha, born on 7 July 1897, in Bengal (undivided India), was a dedicated freedom fighter and social worker. From a young age, he was committed to both education and social service, driven by a vision of India's liberation. His early efforts included aiding flood-affected communities.

In the year 1913, Saha's courage and dedication were evident when he was arrested in the Faridpur conspiracy case. In a daring move, he stole a crucial diary from Police Inspector Ashwini Babu's residence, a risk that ultimately led to the acquittal of the revolutionaries involved. This act of bravery marked the beginning of his active participation in the freedom struggle.

When Mahatma Gandhi launched the Non-Cooperation Movement in September 1920, Saha was at the forefront, resulting in his arrest and imprisonment. His commitment remained steadfast during the Salt March in 1930, where he joined Gandhiji’s call for Civil Disobedience. His participation led to another arrest, during which he endured severe torture.

After his release, Surendramohan Saha continued to engage in various social and political activities. Post-partition, he devoted himself to improving the lives of people in both East and West Bengal through his ongoing social work and political activism. His contributions had a lasting impact on the communities he served. Surendramohan Saha passed away on 25 December 1975.
