Kesrimal Vyas

Nagaur, Rajasthan

February 04, 2025 to February 04, 2028

Kesrimal Vyas dedicated his life to fighting against the British colonial regime for India's independence, opposing the agencies of government, native princely states and jagirdars. Following Mahatma Gandhi's ideals, Kesrimal sacrificed everything for the welfare of the nation. Born on 23 January 1910, in Makrana village, Nagaur district, he faced early hardships, losing his parents at the early age of five. His elder sister, who was married in Sambhar, raised him. He completed his matriculation in Sambhar and began working as a lawyer there before moving to the Kuchaman court.

The independence struggle had a profound impact on Kesrimal Vyas and by 1933, at the age of 23 years, he was deeply involved in the freedom movement influenced by Gandhiji. A notable incident occurred in April 1942 when Vyas evaded arrest by the Jodhpur police. He boarded a train to Jaipur, with police officers monitoring him. However, Kesrimal deceived them and disembarked at Narayanpur. There, he rallied the city's youth, leading to a significant meeting held on the city's slaughterhouse roof. The meeting, presided over by Kesrimal Vyas and addressed by Ranchhod Das Gattani and Manak Chand Kothari, saw other prominent activists like Ram Gopal Sharma, Rampal Sharma, Kishanlal Sarda, Vallabh Kabra, Raghunath Vyas and Badri Nai in attendance. Kesrimal Vyas passed away on 31 March 1984. His legacy to the national freedom struggle remains a source of inspiration for the nation.
