Chaudhuri Raghuveer Singh

Freedom fighter Chaudhuri Raghuveer Singh was born in 1921 at village Barwala in the Thana Shahpur area of Muzaffarnagar in a farmer's family. Raghuvir Singh's family had a great contribution to defence and security of the country. Many of his family members, including him, participated in many wars from World War II to the Kargil war.

Impressed by the slogan of the great revolutionary and freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose, his father quit his job in the British government and joined Azad Hind Fauz. Inspired by his father and Subhas Chandra Bose, he also joined AZAD HIND FAUZ. He was really impressed by the slogan ”GIVE ME BLOOD, I WILL GIVE YOU FREEDOM”.

Chaudhary Raghuveer Singh was on the fronts of Burma, Singapore, Japan, Malaya, etc. in the Second World War. He was a soldier of the artillery regiment. He had one son and two daughters and they all are in government services. Raghuvir Singh's life is extremely disciplined and simple During the freedom struggle, other than in Singapore and Japan, he was kept in prison in Burma (now Myanmar)jail in 1942. After independence, he returned to his village. After that, he joined the police. During this time, he also gave his duty at the residence of Prime ministers like Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru, Dr.Rajendra Prasad as well as Smt. Indira Gandhi. All three leaders had a great attachment to him. Currently, he was getting pensions from the central government, state government as well as Delhi police. He worked in the Delhi police from 1951 to 1981.

He died on 18th May 2018 and he was the only living freedon fighter from the district Muzaffarnagar. His last rites were performed with state honours at the cremation ground in the village Burwala. He was totally against the partition of the country and expressed grief over it. He also used to express his anguish over the politics of caste. The nation will always remember his sacrifice and love for the nation.
