Naujawan Bharat Sabha in Sirsa

Sirsa, Haryana

June 07, 2023 to June 07, 2024

The Naujawan Bharat Sabha was a revolutionary organisation founded in 1926 by Dr. Satyapal, a famous nationalist leader of Punjab. Several branches of the Sabha were opened in Haryana. In Sirsa, the branch was headed by leaders like Durga Das Gupta, Suraj Ram, Budhram Panwari, Neki Ram Tola, Trilok Chand and Pandit Lekhiraj.

Labourers, farmers and students were prominent members of the organization. It had emerged as a consequence of progressive local leaders trying to organize the labour class and farmers to better aid the nationalist cause. The Naujawan Bharat Sabha worked in the field of labour colonies, schools, colleges and rural areas. The Sabha and its function was guarded as secret to avoid suspicion from the British. According to rough estimates, 250- 300 people were its members.

When the British government learned of the organization, it was declared to be dangerous and illegal. This led to several members of the Sirsa branch getting arrested. The Naujawan Bharat Sabha was founded amidst turbulent political developments in India's struggle for independence and is remembered as a notable event in the history of Sirsa.
