Sadashiv Rao Malkapurkar

Sagar, Madhya Pradesh

April 25, 2023

Sadashiv Rao Malkapurkar was born on 18th January 1908, in the Binasagar district, with Raghunath Rao as his father. He was a close associate of the revolutionary Chandrashekhar Azad and spent an unknown period with him in Malkapurki Gadhi, situated in the village of Bhainswaha on the banks of the Naren River in MP UP. After the Kakori incident, Rao and other comrades fought for freedom by making bombs while staying in exile in Bhainswaha, where the ruins of a fort in the area still exist. He was the main accused in the bomb incident in Bhusaval during the freedom struggle, for which he was sentenced to 15 years of black water in 1928. He was released in 1938 but was imprisoned again in 1939, being released after the Second World War. He later settled in Tehsil Rahli of Sagar district, where he served Chandrashekhar Azad's mother and took her on a pilgrimage to all four dhams after his martyrdom. He himself cremated Azad after his death, setting a unique example of serving both the motherland and the mother of the martyr Chandrashekhar. Even today, his name is taken with great respect in the entire region. Malkapur passed away on 12th July 2002, in Rahli.
