Suddhala-Hanumanthu

Born in 1910, Suddhala Hanumanthu was a noted writer who actively took part in the Telangana Armed Rebellion. It is believed that the oppression of people by landlords during the Nizam rule had inspiredHanumanthu to become a writer and singer. To highlight the plight of rural people during the Nizam rule, he had given folk performances to sensitise the people.

Hanumanthu also strongly opposed the social practice of bonded labour and was closely associated with Arya Samaj. His family migrated from Paladugu village to Suddhala village.

In Sahitya Akademi’s ‘The Makers of Indian Literature’, Venu Sankoju said that when shoot-at-sight orders were issued by the Nizam in 1947 against writer Hanumanthu, he fled to Bombay and worked as a tailor for a living.
