Darsi Subhadramma from the West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh, who was instrumental in founding women's organizations across the state and inspiring nationalism in women.
At eighteen, Subhadramma co-founded the Women's Indian Association with Dr Annie Besant and Jina Raja Das. She was twenty-five years old when she became one of the organizers of the All-India Women's Conference. She battled for women's rights. She was a vocal supporter of the Sarada Act and property rights. Between 1932-34, she helped build a women's rescue home. She was a member of the All India Mahila Mahasabha in Madras from 1934 to 1935, where she worked on the Hindu Code Bill.
She also wrote several articles in the Andhra Mahila, a journal published by the Andhra Mahila Sabha, on women and their difficulties, and also about a few women reformers. In 1933, Subhadramma founded a Harijan Girls Hostel. Darsi Subhadramma advocated for women's rights, and as a devoted Gandhian, worked towards independence for the nation.
