Shri Champalal Ranka, who was born in Deshnok, worked in Bikaner and in the state of Kolkata. In 1945, he was elected as member of the Bikaner State People's Council, Kolkata. During the freedom struggle, he came to be popularly known as Harish. He participated in freedom movements along with other freedom fighters such as Shri Raghudayalji, Shri Chhaganji, and Shri Sohan Lalji Bantiya. He was actively involved in the publication of the newspaper titled Aaj ka Bikaner (later known as Riyasati Aawaz). He also published the weekly newspaper Lalkar, and participated in the Foodgrains' Distribution Movement in Ganganagar.
