Rao Gopal Singh was a prominent revolutionary from Kharwa of the Ajmer district of present-day Rajasthan.Rao’s revolutionary activities spanned the pre-Gandhian era. He was associated with Damodar Das Ralhi, a wealthy man from Beawar who financed revolutionary nationalist activities in the region. Together, they worked to revive the local industries to reduce dependence on foreign goods, and sheltered prominent revolutionaries and political activists engaged in anti-imperialist activities. Under the stewardship of Rao, Kharwa eventually became an important destination as a refuge for the revolutionaries. Rao also gathered arms and ammunition for his comrades. Simultaneously, he was in touch with distinguished revolutionaries like Rash Behari Bose and through him with many other revolutionaries. However, the conspiracies of the revolutionary group of Ajmer were exposed during the trial of the Kota murder case. The British government took serious note of Rao’s seditious activities and the Agent to Governor General (A.G.G) in Rajasthan warned him to refrain from his activities against the government. But determined to annihilate alien rule, Rao Gopal Singh continued to fight and plot against the British raj.Source: Indian Culture Portal
